When, in 1775, Patrick Henry spoke the words "Give me liberty or give me death" he could not have known that a little girl named Mercedes Skegro would be born in the 20th century in communist Croatia or that she would one day heed his words and risk her life for freedom. She made her way to the free world and now pursues a lifelong dream to paint. Her works are described as at once intimate and vibrant.
